First Baby of 2018

January 3, 2018

Nicholas Alan Kay and Stacey Marie Kay welcomed more than just another New Year on Monday. The Etowah couple also introduced the world to their new son, Enzo Alan Kay, the first child born at Starr Regional Medical Center in 2018.

"He actually wasn't due until the fifteenth," Stacey said, noting Enzo was born on Monday, Jan. 1, at 12:21 p.m. "He decided to come early."

While he arrived two weeks early, his parents both said he was quite healthy at 7 pounds, 5 ounces, and measuring 19 1/2 inches in length.

While the child's middle name honors his father, his first name honors his father's heritage.

"My grandmother and great uncle passed away not long ago, and I wanted to keep my family's Italian tradition," Nicholas said. "Enzo is also a very unique name."

"Enzo's Italian for 'ruler of the house,'" Stacey added. "I'd say he'll be ruling the house for awhile."

Enzo's older sister, Blyss (age 3), was also born at Starr Regional Medical Center in Athens.

"I love to hold him," Blyss said of her little brother, "and play with him."

Enzo will have plenty of toys to play with, which were given along with some other gifts in a basket presented to his parents by Starr Regional Medical Center. He was also given a special quilt made by members of the Heritage Quilt Guild.
