The Diabetes Support Group, which meets the fourth Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., is postponed until further notice. We apologize for any inconvenience this may caus and look forward to seeing you soon.

The Starr Regional Diabetes Center promotes positive health and well being to persons with diabetes and their families. The Center's self-management education program was awarded recognition from the American Diabetes Association, confirming the diabetes education program, an essential component of effective diabetes management, meets rigorous ADA standards. The Center director is a certified diabetes educator committed to teaching the importance of self-care to prevent and minimize complications of the disease. The Diabetes Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Diabetes Support Group meets the third Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. Individual consultation is available upon referral by a physician.

Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME)

Individual sessions, scheduled at your convenience, include:
• Self-monitoring blood glucose (SMBG)
• Disease process information
• Meal planning
• CHO counting
• Exercise
• Using medications
• Detecting and treating chronic and acute complications
• Development of personal strategies to promote health and behavior change
