Starr Regional Medical Center Names 2020 Mercy Award Winner
August 24, 2020Pat Rogers recognized for demonstrating compassion and unwavering commitment to helping others
Starr Regional Medical Center recently announced that Pat Rogers has been recognized as the hospital’s 2020 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint Health’s hospitals who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.
The Mercy Award is an annual recognition program established in 2002 to honor the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.
“At Starr Regional, we share LifePoint’s commitment to making communities healthier, and we recognize this is supported by the good work and service of our employees on and off the job,” said John McLain, chief executive officer of Starr Regional Medical Center. “We are extremely proud to recognize Pat for her efforts on behalf of our patients and our community. She goes above and beyond each and every day to ensure that every person she encounters receives the highest level of care and compassion.”
Rogers was nominated by her co-workers for being an inspiration to others by serving our patients, our community, her co-workers and her family with respect, compassion and dedication. Rogers is a housekeeper in the Emergency Department at Starr Regional Medical Center - Athens, which is one of the most important roles in a healthcare facility, especially during pandemics.
One example of Rogers’ compassion for others can be found in the recognition she recently received from a patient who had been involved in a car wreck, which left him "scared and upset." He wanted to make sure she knew how much he appreciated all that she had done for him. He further explained how Rogers had noticed how upset he was and began talking to him, calming his fears. “She was extremely kind and went out of her way to ease my anxiety,” he added.
Each hospital winner, including Rogers, will be considered for LifePoint’s 2020 companywide Mercy Award. The companywide winner will be announced and honored during a virtual ceremony hosted by LifePoint this fall.
