Technology upgrades in radiology improve quality, expand services
Starr Regional Medical Center has completed a major enhancement of its medical imaging services, including a facility expansion and the installation of advanced CT and MRI scanners along with software upgrades that expand diagnostic capabilities in cardiovascular care, oncology, urology and women’s health services. These upgrades allow us to offer more advanced diagnostic services—right here in our community—reducing the need for patients to travel for specialized care.
“This is an exciting time for Starr Regional Medical Center and the community we proudly serve,” said John McLain, Chief Executive Officer of Starr Regional Medical Center. “With this advanced technology, our providers can deliver more accurate diagnoses and timely care—ensuring our friends, families, and neighbors receive the high-quality services they deserve, close to home.”
Medical imaging plays a vital role in delivering accurate, timely diagnoses. The new scanners not only improve image quality but also enhance patient comfort and streamline workflow for staff—reducing wait times and improving scheduling.
Software upgrades implemented in June increased MRI capabilities at Starr Regional Medical Center’s Athens campus, including MRI breast, prostate and intestines. Additional new imaging services include cardiac computed tomography angiography (cardiac CTA), calcium scoring and elastography exams of the liver. These services complement the hospital’s existing imaging offerings, which include 3D mammography, nuclear medicine, PET scan, fluoroscopy, ultrasound and X-Ray. All imaging services are performed by a team of certified, compassionate radiologic technologists dedicated to providing exceptional care.
