Starr Regional Medical Center recently announced that Sandy Haynie has been recognized as the facility’s 2025 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of Lifepoint Health’s facilities who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.

Established in 2001, the Mercy Award is an annual recognition program that honors the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, Lifepoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a Lifepoint employee can receive.

“At Starr Regional Medical Center, our caring and compassionate team members are at the heart of advancing our mission of making communities healthier – and Sandy is a shining example of this day in and day out,” said John McLain, CEO of Starr Regional Medical Center. “We are so proud to recognize her many contributions to caring for patients, supporting our hospital and serving our community. I’m grateful for Sandy’s positive influence and the example she sets for all of us.”

Haynie, who recently achieved a milestone of 45 years of service at Starr Regional Medical Center, serves as assistant chief financial officer. She began her career at the hospital in the Emergency Department as a registration clerk and served as a member of the business office, director of accounting and controller before assuming her current position.

Among her peers, Haynie has earned a reputation for her willingness to help others, dependability in times of need, meticulous attention to detail and advocating for quality patient care by ensuring clinical departments are supported with the resources and information they need. From going out of her way to help a lost patient to providing encouragement and recognition to deserving employees in every department, she regularly demonstrates a level of caring that extends beyond her responsibilities. Her unwavering commitment to upholding our extraordinary culture of caring and a compelling spirit of compassion and mercy are qualities deserving of celebration and recognition as this year’s Mercy Award winner.

Each facility winner is considered for Lifepoint’s 2025 companywide Mercy Award and Haynie has been named a semifinalist for the award. The companywide winner will be announced this summer and honored during a ceremony in Nashville, Tenn., in August.
