Starr Regional Medical Center recently celebrated the retirement of Herb Hoffman, longtime receiving clerk in the Materials Management department, who has faithfully served the hospital and the Athens community for an incredible 53 years.

Hoffman began his career at Starr Regional in 1973 and quickly became known for his work ethic, reliability and genuine kindness. Throughout more than five decades, he played an essential role in supporting the hospital’s daily operations and fostering a culture of teamwork and service.

Beyond his professional contributions, Hoffman was recognized for his dedication to community service. He has been an active member of the Lion’s Club, consistently embodying its mission of humanitarian service. Hoffman was also known as the first to volunteer at Starr Regional's community events, health fairs and outreach initiatives. His long-standing involvement with Relay for Life and Remote Area Medical (RAM) Clinic events demonstrated his compassion and commitment to causes that uplift and support others.

“Herb’s legacy is one of dedication, humility, and heart,” said David Alley, Chief Financial Officer at Starr Regional Medical Center. “We are deeply grateful for his 53 years of service and for the countless ways he has supported both our hospital and our community. He will always be part of the Starr Regional family.”

Hoffman’s positive spirit and willingness to help made him a friend to many—coworkers, physicians, volunteers and community partners alike. His presence has touched generations of employees and left an enduring impact on the hospital’s culture.

As Hoffman begins this new chapter, Starr Regional Medical Center extends its heartfelt appreciation and best wishes for a fulfilling and well‑deserved retirement.
