THA Recognizes Starr Regional Medical Center with Zero Harm Award

Starr Regional Medical Center has been recognized by the Tennessee Hospital Association (THA) with a Zero Harm Award for achieving zero healthcare-associated infections in one or more categories throughout calendar year 2025.

The Zero Harm Awards recognize Tennessee hospitals and clinical departments that demonstrate exceptional commitment to patient safety by preventing healthcare-associated infections. Awards are presented in four categories: Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infections (CLABSI), Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTI), Clostridium difficile Infections (CDI), and Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) over the past calendar year. 

Starr Regional Medical Center achieved Zero Harm in these categories: CAUTI (ICU), CLABSI and MRSA (hospital wide).

The THA Zero Harm Awards honor hospitals that foster a culture of safety and continuous improvement while delivering high-quality care to the patients and communities they serve. This year, 100 hospitals earned the award, and 16 achieved the highest recognition for reporting zero hospital-wide infections in 2025. 

“Achieving zero healthcare-associated infections for CAUTI in our ICU and for CLABSI and MRSA hospital-wide is a tremendous accomplishment and a reflection of our team’s commitment to patient safety,” said Michelle Johnson, MSN, RN, Chief Nursing Officer at Starr Regional Medical Center. “This recognition speaks to the dedication of our physicians, nurses and team members who work together every day to protect our patients. I am incredibly proud of their efforts and grateful for their continued commitment to providing safe, high-quality care to our community.”

The THA Zero Harm Awards are presented annually by THA’s Tennessee Center for Patient Safety to honor hospitals that go extended periods without healthcare-associated infections. The full list of recipients is available here.
