Starr Regional Medical Center offers Flu Shot Fundraiser
October 6, 2023

Starr Regional Medical Center is providing flu shots as a fundraiser for the annual Friendly Fellow Club’s Christmas Basket Program on Friday, October 20 from 7 a.m. until 12 p.m. Flu shots will be given in the main lobby of Starr Regional Medical Center – Athens. Flu shots are free; but donations are encouraged. All proceeds from the event are used to purchase food for the nearly 500 food baskets distributed to those in need by the Friendly Fellow Club.
"The hospital’s annual flu shot fundraiser benefits our community in two ways – it protects you and the people around you from the flu and it supports our Christmas basket program,” said Friendly Fellow Club member Joe Allen. “Donations from organizations such as Starr Regional Medical Center and individuals in our community are vital to sustaining the Friendly Fellow Club’s tradition of providing baskets of food to numerous families in our community each year at Christmas."
Flu shots are available to anyone age 18 and older; parents are encouraged to take their children to a pediatrician to receive a flu shot. If you are unable to walk into the lobby, a nurse will be available to administer the shot to you in your vehicle. Simply have a family member enter the lobby and request a nurse to come to the vehicle.
“It is important to get vaccinated against the flu every year. It is the best way to protect yourself and others from the flu virus,” said Melody Anderson, LPN, CPR Coordinator at Starr Regional Medical Center and co-coordinator of the event. “We encourage members of our community to take part in this event to minimize their risk for flu while supporting our friends and neighbors in need this holiday season.”
